The BreakOut student organization facilitates trip-based programming in the CCE, promoting student-student leadership, student learning, and student involvement through off-campus Saturday trips, Block Break trips, and Alternative Spring Break trips throughout the course of the academic year. Students are encouraged to learn more about a specific issue-area or problem facing Colorado Springs and the greater Southwest United States through direct service work and direct engagement with communities beyond the campus to develop a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the ways in which these problems affect local communities. BreakOut is centered in a learning model predicated on direct engagement rather than solely direct service work. Trips are intended to honor the lived experience of off-campus partners who have deep expertise, and they are designed to encourage student learning both on and off the CC campus.

The Criminal Justice Coalition is an issue-based organization designed to raise awareness around the realities of incarcerated individuals and the prison systems they are placed in. In the past, this coalition has worked directly with Colorado College faculty that support the “Liberal Arts in Correctional Facilities” Initiative, whose purpose is to improve the outcomes for incarcerated individuals and their communities by expanding access to higher education in the state correctional system. However, the primary purpose of the coalition is to connect interested Colorado College students to possible engagement work with student-led groups or with local communities partners who focus on issue areas surrounding criminal justice. Throughout the year, as a unified group, the coalition engages in project-based community engagement, awareness-building, meaningful conversations, collective learning, and more. The injustices surrounding the current criminal justice system is a prominent issue in our society, and if you are interested at all, we encourage you to join our coalition. Together, we can enact meaningful, long-lasting change.

The Art Major at Colorado College offers an integrative approach to studying the history and practice of art, architecture, design, and museum studies. The major introduces a wide variety of liberal arts students to the history of art and provides opportunities to experience the power of creative processes through making. Our program is structured to ensure that all majors experience the practice of creating art and are capable of thoughtful analysis of the visual language of works of art. We hope to prepare our majors for graduate study or careers in the visual arts, but the Art Major also develops visual, analytical, and written skills that qualify students for careers in areas other than the arts.
